Congressional Candidate Survey 2022

   

As the election season heats up, it is often hard to tell what a candidate stands for, with all the slick commercials and sound bites purposely designed to mislead voters. This is why the Virginia Constitutional Conservatives sent our 2022 Federal Candidate Survey to every announced candidate for the US House of Representatives and the United State Senate. And now we are releasing the results of that survey.

In these times I want to know what candidates stand for, and what principles they hold dear.

I know I am sick and tired of being stabbed in the back by fake ‘conservatives’, and we will be posting the results of the 2022 Federal Candidate Survey shortly.

Here are the questions we asked the 2022 Virginia Federal Candidates:


If elected to public office, you take an oath to “support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.” Our members want to know your position on these Constitutional issues:

Article. I. Section 8. Clause 1. The Congress shall have the Power To declare War

1. War Powers Act. The decision to go to war should never be taken lightly and servicemen in combat deserve our full support. Before being sent, US troops should know that our country stands with them, that constitutional process has been adhered to, and that our political leaders are committed to victory.

If elected, I pledge to support a bill that would fully repeal the War Powers Act of 1973 and, unless under direct attack, require that the President obtain a Congressional Declaration of War as prescribed by the Constitution before committing American servicemen to combat.

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

2. Free Speech. Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act bestowed upon social media giants an exemption from lawsuits that other American companies do not enjoy. They have proven that they are not impartial utilities deserving of this special protection. Today they routinely abuse their protection from lawsuits to censor opinions with which they disagree. This government enacted exemption limits free speech.

If elected, I pledge to vote to repeal or amend Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act and deny large social media platforms exemption from lawsuits.

3. Emergency Powers. Governments have abused the right of “We the People” to peacefully assemble by invoking unconstitutional emergency power grabs that denied religious services, and the right of people to peaceably assemble. The Constitution has no provision for suspending our rights in times of crisis or emergency.

If elected, I pledge to vote for legislation that denies government the power to enact any law, executive order, or judicial ruling that suspends Constitutional rights due to a crisis or emergency.

4. Health Freedom. Government has directed unconstitutional business shutdowns, injection passports, mask mandates, and has threatened forced injections or job dismissals that that deny us all health freedom and make many Americans second class citizens.

This includes police, fighters, doctors, nurses and others who worked during epidemics to keep us all safe. Military personnel, who refuse inoculations, have even been threatened with dishonorable discharge. Government has also directed private businesses to enforce unconstitutional edicts or suffer serious consequences including fines and closures.

The right to make individual health decisions, or decide in consultation with one’s doctor, has been denied. Often imposed by one man’s edict, this is nothing short of tyranny.

If elected, I pledge to vote for legislation that promotes health freedom, and to vote to block any law, executive order, or judicial ruling that denies an individual health choice, or imposes forced injections or inoculation passports.

Amendment II. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

5. Reciprocal Carry. The ability to travel freely while exercising our second amendment right is unconstitutionally restricted by contradictory state and federal (i.e., DC and national park) laws.

If elected, I pledge to vote for legislation that codifies the right of a conceal carry permit holder to carry a weapon across state lines, and in the District of Columbia and national parks.

6. Constitutional Carry. Twenty-one states currently affirm the right of law-abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons without a government issued permit; these are called “Constitutional Carry” states.

If elected, I pledge to support a “National Constitutional Carry” bill that would allow any law-abiding citizen to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

7. Universal Gun Registration. The first step in gun confiscation is registration.

If elected, I pledge to oppose any legislation that allows the federal government to prohibit, restrict, or track the sale, use, or carrying of firearms, accessories or ammunition or to create a national firearms registry.

Amendment IV. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

8. Spying on American citizens. The so-called “Patriot” Act allows the government to spy on the people in clear violation of Amendment IV requirements for probable cause. Designed originally in a misguided effort to fight terrorists, this unconstitutional law has been used indiscriminately against “We the People,” and to deliberately harass and attack political opponents of those in power, the free press, and ordinary citizens.

If elected, I pledge to vote to repeal the Patriot Act, and to support legislation that would make spying on an American citizen both illegal, and a felony, unless a specific warrant is first obtained; not a blanket warrant issued by a secret FISA court.

9. Privacy Rights. Without a warrant, government agents can access Americans’ data that has been collected, often surreptitiously, by private companies. California’s Consumer Privacy Act gives people the right to know what data a company is collecting, tell them to stop selling it, and request that it be deleted.

If elected, I pledge to vote to prohibit any government agents from accessing any American’s data without a warrant; and support protecting individual privacy rights as specified above.

Amendment V. No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

10. Red Flag Laws. Whenever a firearm is seized by authorities before the owner has his day in court, it violates both the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, the Fourth Amendment right to be secure against unreasonable search and seizure, the Fifth Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment right to due process, and the Sixth Amendment right “to be informed of the nature and charge of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.” The legal process for having a person declared unfit and taking away rights is contingent upon due process.

If elected, I pledge to vote against all Extreme Risk Protection Orders, Red Flag Laws, or “omnibus” legislation that includes them, and to vote for legislation that specifically supports the right of due process before firearms are confiscated.

11. Civil Asset Forfeiture. Civil asset forfeiture has led to the unreasonable seizure of property, even innocent people’s property, and has incentivized police forces to seize property unjustly in violation of the due process clause. Therefore, many states have ended the practice. Unfortunately, some law enforcement agencies team with Federal law enforcement to get around local bans on civil asset forfeiture. In any event, the practice often leads to unjust outcomes and even policing for profit.

If elected, I pledge to support federal legislation to end the practice of civil asset forfeiture.

Amendment VI. In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

Amendment VIII. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

12. Political Prisoners. Many citizens arrested or unlawfully detained for participation in the January 6, 2021, protests at or near the U.S. capitol were denied their Sixth Amendment right to be informed of the charges against them or their right a speedy trial. Some also suffered excessive fines and unusual punishment in violation of their Eighth Amendment rights.

If elected, I pledge to vote to release and seek compensation for persons unlawfully detained, or imprisoned, who were denied their right to know the charges filed against them, or denied their right to speedy trial, or who suffered excessive fines.

13. National Defense Authorization Acts. Large “omnibus” bills often hide violations of the Constitution. The VI and VIII Amendments apply to all levels of government: Federal, State and local.

If elected, I pledge to vote against any bill, order, or law, including any National Defense Authorization Act, if it includes indefinite detention of American Citizens without due process.

Amendment IX. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

14. Government Control of Health Care. Efforts to repeal or de-fund Obamacare have failed. Congress has not yet voted to stop this massive takeover of our health care by the Federal Government. In yet another blatant power grab, the socialists want to replace the failed Obamacare system with an even worse “single payer” government monopoly on all healthcare.

If elected, I pledge to oppose a socialist “single payer” government monopoly on healthcare; and support de-funding Obamacare, not replacing it.

15. Price Controls. Price controls have never worked. Medical price controls, like all price controls, create shortages and discourage innovation. Free market solutions that maximize choice, including purchasing insurance and medicines across borders and transparency in billing are just a few preferred solutions.

16. Health Insurance. Restrictions on interstate sale of insurance drive up prices and limit freedom of choice.

Amendment X. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

17. Curbing Illegal Immigration. As a sovereign nation, we have the right to decide who enters our country. Any nation that has both open borders, and is a welfare state, invites a fiscal crisis and bankruptcy.

If elected, I pledge to support legislation to secure our borders and prevent illegal immigration.

18. Unlawful Resettlement of Illegal Aliens. The Federal government has been paying to transport illegal immigrants from border states to other areas throughout our country; often hiding the practice by surreptitiously using middle of the night flights to send these illegals into our neighborhoods without notifying state and local officials.

If elected, I pledge to support legislation that would end the transport of illegal aliens from border states to anywhere else other than outside the US.

19. Controlling Spending. The Federal Government is currently over $23 TRILLION in debt. This growing and unsustainable fiscal crisis poses a national security threat.

20. Deficit Reduction. Multi-trillion-dollar spending bills enacted into law in 2021 and proposed for 2022 should be reviewed to reclaim unspent funds, and/or be repealed as a deficit reduction measure.

If elected, I pledge to vote to reclaim unspent funds, and/or repeal the multi-trillion-dollar spending bills enacted into law in 2021 and proposed in 2022.

21. Reducing Taxation. Currently, if all Federal, State, local and city taxes are combined, and fees, permits and other activities are included, the average American spends more on Government than they do on housing, clothing and food combined.

Some Democrats have proposed eliminating the Trump tax cuts, which have made U.S. industry more competitive and increased prosperity and employment for all demographics. Marxists among them are even proposing a new, and unprecedented, wealth tax to help fund massive deficit spending.

Our real objective should be to lift the heavy burden of taxation and regulation and to unleash free markets and American productivity. We should also consider growth-oriented alternatives to income taxation and the intrusive IRS, such as a tax on consumption, not one on income, savings and productivity.

If elected, I pledge to support legislation to reduce Federal income taxes and to oppose all new taxation including new wealth taxation schemes and support legislation to reduce Federal, and over time eliminate, income taxes.

22. Debt Limit Increases. Our national debt grows as politicians overspend, and the Federal Reserve issues paper currency that has devalued the dollar. A sound currency helps to prevent inflation and the loss of purchasing power for everyone including the poorest among us.

If elected, I pledge to oppose all debt limit increases unless the U.S. is in a Congressionally declared war.

23. Sound Currency. Inflation is a hidden, insidious tax on the middle and lower classes.

After many months of nearly straight party-line voting, on December 23, 1913, President Woodrow Wilson signed, the Federal Reserve Act. Since then, the Federal Reserve has destabilized our currency and devalued the dollar. Over the past two years, the dollar bubble created by the printing presses of the Federal Reserve has led to rampant inflation.

If elected, I pledge to support legislation to end the Federal Reserve and to restore sound currency.

24. Funding of abortion. Taxpayers - many against their religious beliefs - are funding abortion.

25. Funding foreign laboratories. It has come to light that taxpayer dollars were used to fund the Chinese military laboratory in Wuhan, which genetically modifies viruses.

26. Foreign Aid. While our Republic is $23 Trillion in Debt, the Federal Government has spent over $400 Billion in Foreign Aid since 2013.

27. Cutting the Bloated Federal Bureaucracy. As Ronald Reagan said, the closest thing to eternal life is a government program. Eliminating unnecessary executive departments, regulatory agencies and redundant or unnecessary programs and regulations at the Federal level should be a legislative priority.

Amendment XIV. Section 1. (In part) …. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

28. Equality before the Law. The Declaration of Independence started with the statement that “all men are created equal.” As Americans our ideal has long been equality before the law; not equity. Practices that discriminate based on race, like affirmative action are unconstitutional. Justifications for racism like Marxist Critical Theory seek to deny people equal protection before the law. These practices judge people by immutable characteristics as opposed to the content of their character.

If elected, I pledge to vote to repeal unconstitutional laws based on race, and to support legislation that bans the practice of affirmative action by any institution, and the teaching of Critical Race Theory by government departments and agencies.
